Climb the Guercino Dome
Every weekend from 15:00 to 17:00 including Easter weekend
The ascent to the dome of Piacenza Cathedral frescoed by Guercino is a fascinating circular route that takes visitors on an experiential tour up to a height of 27 metres. The ascent takes place through medieval paths that the builders carved into the thickness of the masonry over 900 years ago, spiral staircases, corridors and attics, allowing continuous breathtaking views of the city and the interior of the Cathedral. After 134 steps, visitors reach the attic of the nave, where a small door opens to wonder, revealing access to the loggia that runs along the entire drum of the dome. Here, one only has to lift one's gaze to marvel at the close-up view of the large scenes created at a height of 40 metres by Giovanni Francesco Barbieri known as Guercino between 1626 and 1627, as a continuation of the work begun by Pier Francesco Mazzucchelli known as il Morazzone.
The great mystery of the Cross in the works of Kronos - Cathedral Museum and Mazzolini Collection
Saturday 8 April 2023
The Crucifixion, the mysterious way chosen by God to save mankind, is represented many times in the history of art as a demonstration of the victory of love over death. The visit will take participants on an itinerary through the oldest works of 'Kronos - Cathedral Museum' to the more contemporary language of Henry d'Anty's painting.
One of his works, in fact, will come specially to "Kronos" from the deposits of the Mazzolini Collection Museum in Bobbio and will then stay in the Cathedral Museum of Piacenza for a month. Participants in the visit will have the opportunity to admire it for the first time.
Please note: the visit requires a participation fee, is by compulsory booking and will be activated when a minimum number of participants is reached.
The visit is part of the "One work per month" 2023 event.
